In this blog from November 2012, Online and Social Media Fundraising Tools, TechSoup's  blogged about the various tools and platforms to help nonprofits reach donors online, particularly via social media - and allow people to donate online, directly to the organization. These tools included:
  • Network for Good offers a suite of fundraising services as well as training to small- and medium-sized organizations.
  • Crowdrise is an online platform for creating quick andeasy fundraising webpages. Setting up a basic page is free, but there are also paid accounts which give you access to more features.
  • ChipIn is a free widget for collecting donations and keeping your constituents informed about various fundraising campaigns. The tool works with any web page as well as with most social media sites.
  • Causes platform lets Facebook users launch and participate in online campaigns, including fundraising, signing petitions, and garnering attention for a cause.
  • FundRazr is a crowdfunding platform that helps organizations raise awareness and donations for their cause. You can easily share your project on Facebook, Twitter, websites, and email
  • Shopify. You can set up a store on a new or existing website and use it to accept donations as well.
There's also now wepay.com., which allows you to accept donations, payments, have an online store, etc.
Any nonprofits out there use any of these, and what has been your experience? Or do you use something else?
What is essential to success in using any of these online/social media fundraising tools?
What do you wish you'd known before you started using these?
